Wayne Herbert Elkins 64 died early Thursday morning at the Veterans Administration Center at Togus, Maine. He was born in Waterville, Maine on April 21, 1948 the son of Herbert and Marjorie Blair Elkins. He was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Waterville High School. He was a member of the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam Conflict where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He was Past District 8 Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Past National Recruiter for the State of Maine. He was very active as member of the Forest J. Pare Post VFW #1285 and Department of Maine and as a member of the POW-MIA group. He is survived by his daughter Wendi Elkins of Bangor, Maine and son Wayne Moynihan of Florida. 3 brothers: Scott Elkins of Hampton Beach, N.H.; Patrick Elkins of South Paris, Maine and Sherman Elkins of Cameron, N.C. 3 sisters: Charlotte Rich of Bradford, VT; Josie Elkins McCall of Cameron, N.C. AND Cindy Quirrion of Auburn, Maine. Committal prayers with military honors will take place 2 p.m. Friday at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Mt. Vernon Road Augusta, Maine. After the services, there will be a luncheon at the Forest J. Pare Post VFW 153 Water Street Waterville, Maine.
