Waterville Walter ''Bedu'' Joseph Bernard, 81, died Mon., June 16, 2008 at Lakewood Living & Rehab Center in Waterville. He was born in Winslow, Feb. 3, 1927, the son of Joseph and Emma Bernard Bernard. He attended Waterville schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He had worked in the picking room at Wyandotte Mill for several years. His favorite song was ''You are my Sunshine''. He enjoyed a pot of tea and crepes, playing 'rummy', old movies and wrestling. He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Diana Denis Bernard; his parents; a grandson, Brian. Survivors include five daughters, Diane Bernard of So. Monmouth, Susan J. Giguere and husband James of Benton, Gail A. Burwood and husband Carl of Waterville, Jane Allen of Waterville, and Barbara Bernard of Fairfield; a son, John Bernard of So. China; two sisters, Sadie Gagne of Waterville and Fern Biloleau of Winslow; six grandchildren, Kelly, Molly, Shawn, Katy, Rachel and Derek; five great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Lakewood Manor for their care and concerns. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church Soup Kitchen, 70 Pleasant St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tues., June 24th at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville. Committal prayers and burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta with Deacon Dean Lachance officiating. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.
