Nancy Albia Togni Turlo, 82, passed on March 21, 2013 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, ME. Formally of Clinton Ave., Winslow, ME, Mrs. Turlo was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Turlo, her parents Peter and Mary Togni, sisters, Ida Togni, Rena York, Rita Bickford, Pearl Shirley, and Lea Brown, and brothers, Hector and Peppino Joseph Togni. Born on July 13, 1930 in Waterville, Nancy attended Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1948. She worked for a short time at Hathaway Shirt Company before marrying Stephen Turlo on October 6, 1951. They lived on Oakland Street before building a home on Clinton Ave. in Winslow where they raised their four children. Once her children were grown, Nancy returned to work and was a cook at Winslow Jr. High School for almost 20 years. An avid golfer, Nancy was a member of Natanis Golf Course for many years with her husband and sister Ida Togni. In 1987, she scored a hole in one on a par 3. She also enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with friends and family. She loved music and especially enjoyed dancing. A superb cook and seamstress, Nancy enjoyed entertaining and took great pride in preparing wonderful dinners for her family, decorating her home and sewing or knitting clothing items for her children and grandchildren. Family and friends will always remember her spontaneous laughter and cheery disposition. Nancy is survived by her children John and Kathleen Mathieu Turlo of Windham, ME, Katherine Kate White of Anchor Point, Alaska, Stefan Turlo of Waterville, ME, and Jane Turlo-Chavarria and Mac Chavarria of Bothell, WA.; also her grandchildren, Sarah Turlo of New York, Matthew Turlo of Windham, ME, Michael and Jennifer White of Anchorage, Alaska, and Felipe Chavarria of Bothell, WA and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m. at the Gallant Funeral Home in Waterville, ME on Thursday, April 4. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5 at St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Monument St. in Winslow, ME, where Nancy was a communicant for most of her life. Mass will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a private interment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Waterville. The family wishes to thank the staff at Longfellow Unit at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, Beacon Hospice in South Portland, Woodland Assisted living in Waterville and Betty Perry of Winslow for their many kindnesses in caring for our mother over the past several years.
