Waterville Leonel "Leo" U. Lanteigne, Jr., 65, of Waterville passed away at the Hospice Unit, Togus V.A. Medical Center Mon. May 16, 2011. Leo was diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer in Jan. 2011 and fought a courageous and valiant battle. Leo was born June 21, 1945 the son of Leonel U. Lanteigne, Sr. and Ida May Soucy Lanteigne. He was educated in Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville Senior High School where he was very active in school sports. Leo married Pamela Irby Lanteigne who predeceased him on Sept. 24, 2005. He He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 18 years, stationed in Oklahoma and 14 years in Germany. He was a Sgt. when he had to take an early retirement due to health issues. Leo was an avid hunter and fisherman following in his Dad's footsteps. Most recently he enjoyed metal detecting and involvement in the Water-Oak Gem & Mineral Society of Waterville. These were great pastimes for him especially times spent with his significant other, Rose Rowe. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Theresa Pouliot. He is survived by sisters, Mary Jane Clukey and husband Steven of Waterville, Trudy Lovely of Winslow; niece, Josette Pouliot Roberts and husband Eric and family of Waterville; nephews, Samuel and Randy Lovely and families, Barry Clukey and wife Cora and family all of Winslow, Alan Pouliot, Paula Bennett and family of Fairfield Center, Andy Pouliot and family of Gautier, Miss., Pamela's daughter, Shannon of Oregon; and several cousins in the Waterville area. He is also survived by his significant other, Rose Rowe of Benton who was a tremendous help to him and his family during the time of his illness. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Rose, the Hospice nurse, who cared for him in his home, and the Hospice Unit nurses who gave him such excellent care. Private burial will military honors will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
