Leo J. Breard, 85, died Sunday, July 12, 2015. He had resided in Waterville. He was born in Waterville May 31. 1930, the son of Napoleon and Marie Ann LaRochelle Breard. Leo attended schools in Waterville. He had three brothers, Clement, Francis and Richard. He served in the Korean War two years from 1951 to 1953 with the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Corporal. He earned the prestigious Purple Heart, Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He married Edith Swett on Sept. 7, 1953. They had 46 years together until her death in Dec. 1999. Leo worked a variety of jobs including the Morning Sentinel from which he retired in 1991 after being there 23 years. Leo enjoyed feeding the squirrels. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Leo was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Edith; and his brothers, Richard and Clement. He is survived by two sons, David and wife Rebecca of Biddeford and Darryl and wife Regina of Waterville; grandchildren, Jonathan Breard and wife Sarah, Anna Breard, Kellie Mellows, Amanda Nye and Derick; great grandson, Elijah Inman; brother, Francis Breard and his companion Barbara Varney; brother-in-law, Wilbur Swett, Jr. of Waterville; sister-in-law, Arlene Mattson of Waterville; and by many nieces and nephews. At Leo's request, there will be no visiting hours. There will be a graveside service at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville at 11 A.M Saturday, July 25, with full military honors.
