Benton Iva L. Williams Cronkhite, 84, went home to be with her Lord Apr. 15, 2008. She was born in Waterville, Mar. 7, 1924, the daughter of Arland and Catherine Nason Williams. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1942 and married Donald W. Cronkhite June 13, 1945. She worked for Fishman's Dept. Store in Waterville, Fairfield Community Federal Credit Union, Harris Bakery Federal Credit Union, a bookkeeper for Mac Pheters' Garage, and for over 20 years for the Family Bookstore in Fairfield. She had a special love for children and children's ministry. She served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, led Junior Church, served in the nursery, taught Vacation Bible School and was a Pioneer Girls Leader at Getchell Street United Baptist Church for many years. She also served at Winslow Baptist Church and when her husband was ordained as a minister they served at East Benton Christian Church, Hinckley New Testament Church and Quaker Hill Christian Church. She loved to tell flannel graph Bible stories to both children and adults. At the time of her death she was a membr of Getchell Street United Baptist Church. She loved her family and her home was always open to her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Brown and her husband Donald of Pittsfield; her granddaughter, Heather Brown of So. Portland; her grandson, Rev. Donald David Brown Jr. and his wife Michelle of Tarpon Springs, FL; her sister-in-law, Madeline Cronkhite Nickerson of N.H.; an aunt, Ethel Williams of Waterville; several cousins, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Donald W. Cronkhite Sept. 9, 1990, her sister, Arnita Williams Green and her husband William. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff who took care of her over the years at Sebasticook Health Care Facility. Visiting hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wed., Apr. 16th, at the Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thurs., Apr. 17th at Getchell Street United Baptist Church, 3 Getchell St., Waterville with Rev. Donald David Brown Jr., Youth/Assistant Pastor of Bible Baptist Church, Palm Harbor, FL. and Pastor Ron Corey co-officiating.
