Glenda Joy Ambrose, age 84, died March 29, 2010 at Oak Grove Center Nursing Home, Waterville, Maine. She was born in Sherman Mills, Maine, and moved with her family to Waterville in 1925, where she attended public schools, and was an active member of the Waterville Congregational Church. Glenda loved music, even as a child. Her brother remembers Glenda, as a youngster living on Boutelle Avenue, would sing as she swung in her back yard swing. Her favorite song was a popular song by Kate Smith, ''When It's Springtime on the Mountain.'' Her love of music evolved into her participation, as years passed, as a choir member of the church choir. Glenda won first prize for singing in a State Amateur Talent Contest. She was employed by Colby College as Secretary to the Food Services Director, covering a period of 36 years, after which she, with her sister Gerry, spent time caring for her ill mother. Glenda was one of six children in the family of Frank and Mattie Ambrose. She is survived by her brother William F. Ambrose of Florida and Belgrade, Maine, and nieces and nephews. There will be a remembrance of Glenda during the 10am service of May 9th, 2010, at the First Congregational Church of Waterville.
