George E. Gilligan, 89, of West River Road, Waterville, died Sun. Nov. 8, 2009 at Lakewood in Waterville. He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., Sept. 21, 1920, the son of Raymond F. and Lucille M. Riordan Gilligan. He was a high school graduate of Whitneys Point High School in Whitneys Point N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years during WW II. While serving, on a Naval Destroyer in the South Pacific he was wounded in action. He spent seven months in a Naval Hospital on the West Coast because of his injuries. He was A recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Gilligan was a member of a the U.S. Power Squadron and the Chamber of Commerce in Auburn, N.Y.. He also belonged to the Bear Creek Lodge in the Adirondack Mountains. He was Vice-President and General Manager of Ocram Corporation a subsidie of Gulf-Western. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Krantz Gilligan of Waterville; four daughters, Joan M. Rusinko and husband Richard of Cayuga, N.Y., twin daughters, Carol Ann Gross and husband Philip of Newtown, CT. and Margaret L. Henyan and husband Daniel of Waterville, Me. and Maureen Pepe and husband John of Marietta, GA.; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren. Prayers will be said at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. Graveside committal prayers will be recited at 12 p.m. Fri. in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
