Charles E. Merrill, Jr. passed peacefully in his sleep on April 4, 2011, after a brief hospital stay resulting from a recent car accident. He was born in New Haven, Ct on August 31, 1944 the son of Charles E. and Marie Lawler, Sr. Charlie was a life-long resident of Waterville, a U.S. Army veteran and staunch supporter of Bourque-Lanigan Post 5 American Legion. He was employed for many years as a chef at the John Martin Manor here in Waterville. He will always be remembered by his friends and family alike, for his wry sense of humor and ever-present smile. A generous and loving father, grand and great-grandfather, husband , brother, and uncle, he will be missed but always remembered in the hearts of all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife Anne, brother Daniel and wife Joan of Oklahoma, daughters Lori Martin and significant other Daron Ouellette, and Tina Dumais and significant other Jason Bard. Charlie is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley Perry and her husband Matt of Winslow, Rachel and Brandon Dumais of Waterville, and Samantha and Taylor Martin of Clinton, and two great-grandchildren Madison Wilson and Bryce Perry of Winslow, and many brother/sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, especially Pat and Ron Largesse. There will be no public visitation. Military services will be held 2 p.m. Friday April 8, 2011 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Mount Vernon Road in Augusta, Maine.
