Waterville Alton E. Dechaine, 74, of Edwards St., died Fri., Feb. 10, 2006 at his residence after a courageous battle with emphysema and lung cancer, with his family by his side. He was born Nov. 23, 1931 in Waterville the next to the youngest of 16 children to Wilfred and Regina LeBel Dechaine. Mr. Dechaine spent his days playing cards and visiting friends at Forest J. Pare Post VFW in Waterville. He enjoyed playing cribbage with family and friends. He had worked for the Waterville Public Works Dept. for several years. He will be sadly missed by his family. He was predeceased by his parents and by three brothers, Joseph, Raymond and Maurice Dechaine. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Dutil Dechaine of Waterville; four sons, Frederick Dechaine of Winslow, Patrick Dechaine of Fairfield, Dominic and Roger Dechaine both of Waterville; two daughters, Laurie Dechaine of Winslow and Deborah Turmelle of Waterville; a brother, Robert Dechaine of FL.; a sister, Lillian Roberge of Waterville; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. His family wishes to thank the HealthReach Hospice staff for all their help. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tues., Feb. 14 at Sacred Heart Church, 70 Pleasant St., Waterville.
