Philip C. Lemieux Obituary (1921 - 2009)

Winslow Philip C. Lemieux, 87, of So. Garand St., died Sunday, Mar. 29, 2009 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit in Waterville. He was born in No. Vassalboro, Nov. 29, 1921, the son of Levi and Viola Corriveau Lemieux. Mr. Lemieux was a high school graduate and a WWII Army veteran. He had been a welder for Scott Paper Company and also owned and operated Lemieuxs Orchard with his wife, Celine. He was a member of the MacGrillis-Rousseau Post, VFW in Winslow. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow. Our Dad was a self made engineer. He was forever building or inventing something new. People were often looking to him for mechanical advice. He passed his wealth of knowledge down to all of his children, especially his boys. He was affectionately called ''The Apple Man''. He so loved building his apple farm and showing us all how to care for the trees. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing a tune. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Celine Reny Lemieux of Winslow; for sons and their wives, Norbert and Celia of Cutler, Gilbert and Melanie of Clinton, Ralph and Pamela of Vassalboro and Richard and Debbie of North Vassalboro; four daughters and their husbands, Rose and Greg Fortin of No. Vassalboro, Lucille and Raymond Foster of Oakland, Patricia and Richard Hildreth of Fairfield, and Bernadette and Rock Lacroix of Benton; a brother and his wife, Joseph and Theresa of Fairfield Center; four sisters, Katherine Lord of N.H., Sister Madeline Lemieux of Mt. Merici in Waterville, Elizabeth Perrin of Lewiston and Josephine Bouthot of Gardiner; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Alfred Lemieux of Sacramento, CA.; two sisters, Virginia Duncan of Portland and Sister Philome of Mt. Merici in Waterville; and by a grandson, Matthew Lemieux of Clinton. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses in CCU especially Sharon, Ashley and Dr. Hendrickson. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Assoc. of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330 or to Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903. Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wed., Apr. 1, 2009 at the Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thurs. Apr. 2, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Monument St., Winslow. Committal prayers will be said at church.
