Leo William Bourassa Obituary (1926 - 2006)

-- Leo William Bourassa died Monday, April 17, 2006, at Maine Medical Center in Portland from injuries sustained from an accident that occured at his home in Winslow on Thursday, April 13. Leo was born in Winslow on Aug. 23, 1926, a son of Donat and Lucy Dostie Bourassa. He was educated at St. John Catholic School and Winslow High School. He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in North Vassalboro. During World War II, Leo was in the Army stationed in Okinawa. After completion of military service, he was a spinner at the Wyandotte Woolen Mill in Waterville for 12 years. Leo also tried his hand in the dry bean business for 15 years. He had excellent years and bad years; depending on weather conditions. Leo was later certified by the State of Maine Department of Construction Division as a manual shielded metal arc welder. His last employment was in the construction business working for his brother, Frank. Leo was a very special person. He was a wonderful son, brother and uncle, who cared for his family very much. He was a kind, gentle, religious, loving person, with a keen sense of humor. His sense of humor was bestowed liberally upon his many nieces and nephews. His favorite pastimes were walking many miles a day, listening to music, traveling around the coast of Maine with his sister Lucille, watching all sports, especially baseball. Leo's favorite team was the Boston Red Sox. He was elated when they finally won a championship. Leo is survived by brothers and sisters, Frank, Ralph and wife Brenda, Yvette ''Jackie'' Bourassa, all of Winslow, and Irma Munro of Waterville; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Bourassa of Winslow and Giselle Bourassa of Lewiston; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers and sisters, Annettle Thurlow, Lucille, Rena, Mona Bourassa, Ernest, Carl, Lawrence, Richard Bourassa of Winslow, and Donald Bourassa of Augusta. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Main Street, Vassalboro, with the Rev. Joseph Cahill officiating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.
