Hope M. Murphy Obituary (1921 - 2015)

Portland Hope M. Murphy, 93, died June 27, 2015 in Portland. She was born in Waterville, Dec. 13, 1921, the daughter of George and Edith Hodgkins Day. Hope was a graduate of the nursing school at Maine Medical. She served in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during WW II. She retired as an R.N. at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Hope was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Joseph W. Murphy who had retired from the Boston Fire Dept. and a step-daughter, Mary Saia LaGarde. Hope is survived by two step-children, Joseph P. Murphy of Braintree, MA, and Louise A. Thistle of Brockton, MA. ; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hope's funeral services and burial were in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree, MA.
