Edmund Augustus Lessard Obituary (1924 - 2015)

Winslow, Maine -- Edmund Augustus Lessard 90, died peacefully on Monday, February sixteenth, in the Hospice unit at the VA Togus Maine. Edmund was born on September 1, 1924, in Waterville Maine. He was the son of Henry and Eva Pooler Lessard. Edmund was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. A quiet, gentle, and generous man, he found particular joy late in his life by spending time with his great grandsons at the family camp on Snow Pond. His family's many happy memories of him will be a continuous blessing. Edmund Lessard landed at Omaha Beach June 6, 1944, a few kilometers from where his ancestor had left for New France in 1640. He later joined General Patton's Third Army into France, Belgium and Germany ending at the Eagle's Nest near the German-Austrian border. Nicknamed "The Kid" by his fellow 165th Combat Engineers, he was half way to Japan on VJ Day. He was very proud of service to the United States and as a member of the Greatest Generation. Edmund was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Juanita Emma Derosby Lessard; his parents; his two sisters, Winifred Perry and Teresa Larochelle; and his two brothers, John Lessard and Alvie Lessard. He is survived by his son, Daniel and wife Linda of Naples, Florida; grandsons, Jeffrey and wife Katherine of Bedford NH, Jason and wife Anne of Bexley Ohio, and Eric and wife Lindsey of Portland Maine; great grandsons, Sam, Henry, Connor, Harrison and Alexander. Another great grandson is due to bless his family in April. Edmund is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Derosby, as well as his nieces and nephews, Dr. Theodore Perry, Steve Perry, John Derosby, Tommy Derosby, Shawn Larochelle, David Larochelle, Jill Labbe, Jan Hashey, Jane Pottle, Debbie Breese and a special niece, Ann Gigure. A funeral Mass at St. John The Baptist Church in Winslow and burial at the "new" Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta will be held in July.
