Edgar W. Pond Obituary (1924 - 2014)

Edgar W. "Bud" Pond Edgar Warren "Bud" Pond, 90, of Waterville, Maine, formerly of Bristol, CT passed away on December 12, 2014 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born at home in Terryville, CT on November 9, 1924, the youngest of four children of Dwight and Catharine Moore Pond. Bud attended Terryville High School and graduated from Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts. During WWII, he left Yale University to enlist in the 82nd Airborne. He was a paratrooper and medic in Europe and received the Purple Heart for wounds received while giving aid to a wounded comrade. After the war, Bud married Dorothy Jane Malley of Terryville CT on December 20, 1947, and also completed his education, graduating from St Lawrence University. Together, he and Dot enjoyed raising four rambunctious children. Bud worked for many years in the foundry industry. He also was an outstanding bridge player; played catcher on baseball teams; and enjoyed skiing, swimming, fishing, woodworking, music, and building stone walls. Bud was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Malley Pond; brothers Philip and Cameron Pond; sister Lois Pond; and son-in-law Glenn Stratton. He is survived by children Kate Stratton of Waterville, Susan C Pond and husband Dave Probert of Dresden, E Andrew Pond and wife Barbara of Virginia, and Jennifer Pond Harder and husband David Harder of Wisconsin; special family friend Lori Fontneau of Vermont; and grandchildren Bartholomew Stratton of Dedham, Brendan Stratton of Winslow, and Katie Harder Taylor and husband Sean Taylor of Orono. Through the embrace of his children's blended families, Bud is also survived by grandchildren Judi Probert Pace of Freeport, Angela Rossetti-Hoare of Massachusetts, Lori Rossetti of Virginia, Shane Harder of Wisconsin, Adam Harder and wife Corinne of Colorado, Ethan and Caleb Fontneau of Vermont; and great-grandchildren Korissa Lavers of Freeport, Delia Rossetti-Hoare of Massachusetts, and Trenton Harder of Wisconsin. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are through Gallant Funeral Home in Waterville.
