Delbert Donald Matheson Obituary (1921 - 2012)

Delbert Donald Matheson, 91, of Waterville, died Sunday evening, November 11, 2012 at the Oak Grove Center in Waterville. He was born in Watertown, Connecticut on July 29, 1921, the son of George Edward and Edna Eckert Matheson. Delbert was educated in Ipswich, Massachusetts and graduated from Colby College, Class of 1943. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 in England and Germany working in the field hospitals. On June 23, 1946, he married, Thelma Proctor, his college sweet heart. Delbert was an accountant and was employed as Comptroller for Kennebec Valley Regional Health and Business Manager for W. B. Arnold Company and C. O. Beck & Sons. Delbert was a member of the National Association of Cost Accountants, Lions Club of Waterville, Ken-A-Set Association, Waterville Safety Council, Waterville Country Club, and American Legion. He enjoyed attending his class reunions. Delbert is survived by, his wife of over 66 years and college sweet heart, Thelma Proctor Matheson, a son, Delbert D. Matheson, Jr. and wife, JeNelle of Ft. Collins, CO and China, ME; three daughters, Jane Matheson of Biddeford, Susan Lyles and her husband, Donald of Oak Hill, VA and Deborah Fabian and her husband, Mark of Oak Hill, VA; one sister, Grace Marie Nichols of Vienna, VA; grandchildren, Ned and Peter Matheson of Denver, Co, Amanda Lyles of Okinawa Japan, Marjorie Lyles-Jones and her husband, Shane, Molly Lyles, Zachary, Kathleen and Nicholas Fabian all of Oak Hill, VA, and three nieces. The family would like to send a very special thank you to Dr. Clifton Smith, the Staff at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus and to the Oak Grove Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs. Nov. 15, 2012 at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville with Rev. Mr. Peter Joseph officiating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville.
